Dollars Grow In No Mans Land As Women Run Farm
Somerset, April 2 The Mechling family on 127 acres in Perry County tilled by four women for 13 years shows a thriving farm run without hired help. Anna Mechling, nearing 85, operates the land with daughters Ruth and Cerelda and sister-in-law Mary Ann Mechling. The women handle plowing, planting, and fencing while Aunt Mary Ann sews and follows world news. Ruth and Cerelda call themselves the hired hands and express plans to visit Somerset after spring work.
