Fire aboard the steamer Melita began in the hold seven days from Boston and eight hours before sighting the Jacob A. Strader. Due to cotton and tobacco cargo the flames resisted all efforts to quell. The Strader rescued 48 aboard including 17 sent to Monequast for Liverpool and 18 to Kurrache for Grenock. the rest arrived in New York yesterday.
