The notice urges all classes to turn out and resist reactionists, by order of the Central Committee. Additional Ireland troops cited, and obits and distant political notes included.
A late 19th century bulletin cites sailors in Milwaukee striking for four dollars per day. Reports mention civic figures and other local incidents across cities including Memphis Albany Boston and Jersey City with arrests disappearances and public events.

Mixed late European dispatches report troubled Ireland with anti Catholic unrest and troop deployments in Lisburn while Paris runs political notices. Prince Napoleon and Princess Clothilde face exile and a government ultimatum as Seward’s death shocks London observers. President Grant’s Thanksgiving proclamation appears alongside character notices and a fire at the Raleigh Sentinel office.
The Northern Pacific Railroad party returned to Portland after ten days away. They explored harbors bays channels for four hundred miles around Puget Sound and the Columbia River valley near the Snake River mouth. They praised the route and noted proposals for coast to eastward railroad construction.

A series of disasters reported October 11 include a major furnace fire at Mineamott Lead Company’s Frederickstown plant causing an estimated $250,000 loss and 500 workers left jobless. In Osceola, Arkansas, a white versus black confrontation flared over several days and culminated in a Wednesday fight where one black man was killed and several others were wounded. The incident followed the killing of Murray, the town sheriff, about six days earlier.
Camp Point residents report a torch light procession clash near Republican HQ ending in gunfire. Samuel Barrett fatally injured, Geo Barrett wounded, amid broader reports of unrest and vigilante violence in Antville and nearby counties. Local gossip notes liberal leanings and a shift toward Grant support with humorous town anecdotes.
