Universal smallpox vaccination urged for Quincy citizens
State health officials press for universal vaccination to end smallpox outbreak in Quincy. Dr. John Rappleman and C. St. Clair Drake urge Chamber of Commerce backing and prompt employer vaccination orders to avoid city quarantine and severe economic losses.
Vaccination and quarantine urged to curb Quincy epidemic
Mr Drake warns Mayor Thompson that continued neglect of universal vaccination and strict quarantine will force harsher actions. He calls for immediate universal vaccination through business, schools, churches, and urges arrest and prosecution of quarantine violators. Quarantine must last two weeks or longer until skin is clear, with local health approval required to end it. The message stresses public safety and the city’s reputation.
