Housecleaning Hints From Mrs Homemaker For May
Practical tips sourced from experience advise brushing matting with bran in warm water to brighten, renew rag matting with gasoline and oil paint, and varnish for dust proofing. Avoid soap on rattan or willow. use ammonia and water to prevent yellowing or bleach by sulfur fumigation, or enamel with white enamel on dry days. Clean white painted surfaces with baking soda solution and dry polish. For delicate furniture, use castile soap suds and dry polish with silk, and protect curtains with a bead on the line. Clean plaster busts by dipping in thick starch, dry, then brush to lift dirt.
