El Paso Texas March 7 Francis Villa is within six miles of the U S border en route to Washington where he will seek an interview with President Wilson as reported by Gabriel Gavira Juarez commandant relayed to Gen John Pershing. Gavira advices say Villa aims to clear himself of blame in the Santa Isabel massacre and present his case to the president.
Admiral Fletcher, head of the Atlantic fleet, said three dreadnoughts and four battle cruisers would greatly enhance American fighting strength, exceeding Germany's seven cruisers and tying to 25-knot speeds. He argued four ships would offset other gaps in the fleet.

A daring break in at G F Roberts coal office and Vollbracht implement office in Camp Point left a sack of clover seed and about $20 missing from the Roberts safe. Most money belonged to tax collector Al Heinecke. Police suspect a man believed to be in Quincy, but no arrests were made. Deputy Fletcher investigated. evidence appears circumstantial.
Lloyd dispatch from Santos, Brazil reports 338 passengers and crew of the Spanish steamship Principe de Asturias missing after she struck a rock off Sebastian Point near Santos bay. The ship, a large passenger liner of about 11,000 tons, went down quickly nine miles from the entrance to the bay while en route between Barcelona and Brazil.
Geneva March 7 Eight hundred Austrian soldiers were killed or wounded in a raid by Italian aeroplanes on Laibach February 19 The attack targeted the city housing Austrian headquarters and several dozens of grenades and bombs were dropped Two high Austrian staff officers said to have been killed The raid was claimed as retaliation for Austrian violations of international law an Austrian official called it a lamentable failure and one Italian aircraft was destroyed

Chicago dated report states William H Harper of University of Wisconsin shut dent was indicted by a Lakeouts grand Jury on a murder charge against his former sweetheart Marian Lambert. The panel heard 25 witnesses, most from the inquest, and the case may go to trial next week with defense continuance anticipated.

A Monday morning blaze in Peoria Illinois destroyed the entire Iowa Elevator company plant. An eleven story elevator and a 2,000,000 bushel grain warehouse burned with about 1,000,000 dollars in damage, insured. The grain belonged to S C Bartlett and company. Fifty workers lost their jobs but no injuries were reported.
An official German wireless statement from March 7 says German naval airships attacked the Hull naval base on the Humber during the night of March 54. The raid produced a good effect, airships were fired upon but suffered no lasting damage and all airships returned.
Three victims of the Wabash car fire at Bluffs were laid to rest side by side in Greenwood cemetery Decatur Monday. Floral wreaths adorned the coffins as mourners gathered. Fourth victim Thomas Parevoss not expected to recover.
The supreme court reversed a $10,000 judgment awarded to a man injured while riding a train with the engineer’s consent. They ruled hoboes may not collect damages for injuries and are liable under the anti pass law. Justices Hughes and McKenna dissented, saying Congress did not intend to cover that aspect in enacting the act.
Newton D. Baker former mayor of Cleveland has been selected by President Wilson for secretary of war. His nomination will go to the senate and swift confirmation is expected so he can oversee plans for army increases and reorganization. Baker, a lawyer and Ohio Democrat, is a Wilson ally and had been offered the interior post in the original cabinet but declined to remain mayor. He is abroad with the preparedness program and foreign questions. He accepted after telegraphic offer and will not be in Washington Thursday.
Seven members of Dan Okane's family were found slain twelve miles southwest of Lawton Oklahoma. The victims include Mrs Okane an infant and four children aged 4 to 10. Okane and his father were found shot with a rifle. A hired man discovered the grisly scene. The killer used a razor hammer and small caliber rifle. Okane once cared for Apache prisoner cattle.
A subcommittee of bituminous operators and miners in western Pennsylvania Ohio Indiana and Illinois reached agreement on wage increases that could total about eight million dollars annually. The pact, set to take effect April 1, awaits ratification by the full joint conference, likely tomorrow.
The Senate on Monday confirmed Joseph H. Shea of Indiana as minister to Chile and David R. Francis of Missouri as ambassador to Russia. Francis, former Interior secretary under Cleveland, will succeed George T. Marre at Petrograd, who resigned due to health concerns amid the Russian climate.
