Washington June 26 Drawing of order numbers for the 800000 men registered last June 5 will be held Thursday in the senate office building. Secretary Baker will draw the first number at 9 30 am and the process will continue until all capsules are opened. The event will run about three hours.
Alonzo Sargent engineer of the Michigan Central equipment train was ordered held incommunicado by the acting coroner. Fireman Gustave Krauss also was held. Sargent, charged with manslaughter after the Hagenbeck Wallace circus wreck, refused to testify on counsel’s advice as the inquest adjourned. Johnson testified that Sargent told him he had been dozing before the collision.
In Shelbyville Missouri on July 26 John R Jackson known as Irving Morgan faces a preliminary examination in a justice court after confessing to the fatal act of throwing his wife from a Pullman window near Shelbina. He asked to visit her grave but was refused and broke down. He may not secure bond due to a prior Birmingham Alabama embezzlement case. The crime is deemed to have been committed in this county.
Dispatches report Nicholas II murdered by Red Guards at his Ekaterinburg residence after being moved from Tobolsk to Moscow for safekeeping. The ex-emperor, the empress, and a daughter were relocated on May 4 as Szecho-Slovak troops near Ekaterinburg are noted.
London June 26 Edward Shortt chief secretary for Ireland told the house of commons that a German plot in Ireland posed a real and imminent danger. He said Germany was in touch with Ireland with messages from Irish sources to Germany and noted ammunition loaded into a German submarine and submarines seen near shipping targets. He cited seditious poems pamphlets and notices urging aid to any German force landing in Ireland.
A Daily Mail dispatch from The Hague reports 20,000 workers quitting in Cologne and Mannheim amid bread ration cuts. Dutch observer says police and military failed to stop a 9,000-strong Cologne street procession and mass meeting with speakers pledging not to work without more food. Smallpox is rising among Krupp workers at Essen.
Paris reports raids between the Oise and Aisne enabled prisoners to be taken. Artillery was active south of the Aisne, notably near Silly-la-Poterie. On June 24 six enemy aircraft were shot down or damaged, and over four tons of projectiles struck aviation grounds in the Aisne region.
Washington June 26 President Wilson approves plans for a brief congressional recess while the house ways and means committee crafts the new revenue bill. The recess is timed to fit the bill’s preparation and consideration.
Amsterdam June 26. German foreign secretary Richard Von Kuehlmann stated Germany’s aims as a free, strong, independent existence within historical boundaries and pursuit of overseas possessions, while denying plans for world domination and attributing responsibility to Russia. He praised neutral states and warned against misread peace overtures, noting Austro-Hungarian successes against Italy and renewed German initiative in France.
London dispatch reports Field Marshal Haig's daily message from British headquarters in France stating that nothing of special interest has occurred. The terse bulletin provides no notable battles or movements to report on this day.

Five people died and several injured as a tornado swept from Boynton to Bennie Smart and J. L. White homes, destroying multiple houses and barns near Green City Missouri. The dead include Mrs. J. L. White and Mrs. Bennie Smart, with rescue teams and doctors assisting across Milan and Greencastle.
Norfolk readers learned of a fast German raider rumoured to operate in West Indian waters. Masters arriving from Central and South America reported a cruiser type vessel about 270 feet long, armed and swift at 15 to 20 knots, first seen 200 miles east of Bermuda. Sailors said she sunk a large British steamship and shelled two American ships, while avoiding direct attacks on others. Some thought she was a submarine mother ship or a captured fruit steamer repurposed for war.
Washington officials view Von Kuehlmann's Berlin speech as a new phase in Germany's old cycle of war aims and peace offers. He blames Russia and seeks pacific terms for the western powers, while Entente diplomats expect the move to fail and the Allies to press on to victory.
Berlin advices received in Copenhagen report Irkutsk in Siberia captured by Czecho-Slovak troops under General Alexieff. The news was transmitted to the Exchange Telegraph company and relayed through Copenhagen.

Vienna concedes a Piave reverse as Italian forces clear the western bank from Montello to the sea and harass retreating Austrians. Bridges toppled by floods hinder pursuit while Rome reports 16 machine guns and many prisoners taken. West front raids continue with Canadian gains near Arras and German bombardment east of Amiens.
Italian forces under General Diaz routed Austrian troops along the Piave with rapid accurate fire and constant counter offensives. Cavalry pursued across the swollen river, taking prisoners while Italian patrols harassed the enemy amid natural river dyke fortifications. American troops were hoped for to boost impact.
Fort Worth on June 26 reports Lieut. Claude J. Buckley aged 25 from Chicago died from injuries after an airplane crash last Friday. The airman succumbed to his wounds Tuesday.
Italian forces report forcing the last Austrian rear guard to surrender and reoccupying the right bank of the Piave, with 3,000 prisoners taken. In the Monte Grappa sector, attacks and heavy losses are noted, plus gains of ground and several hundred prisoners. Austrian communications claim Italian losses at about 150,000 since the offensive began and over 50,000 prisoners taken since June 15.
London June 26 Premier Lloyd George urged settlement of the Irish question, saying its unresolved status worsens difficulties for both the British and United States governments in conducting the war.
