Washington reports an Allied transport under American charter was torpedoed on June 18 about 700 miles east of Delaware capes. The ship had 148 crew, no troops aboard, and four boats with 67 missing after 19 shots. Eight men rescued so far.
The Senate ratified reciprocal draft treaties with Great Britain on Monday with no dissents. The pact covers British subjects ages 20 to 44 in the United States and American citizens 21 to 31 in the British empire, offering home-country service options and exemptions.
