Washington December 17 permission to institute original proceedings to have the national prohibition amendment tested in court is sought by a citizen or group seeking judicial clarity on the constitutionality and scope of the dry amendment and its enforcement.
The Retail Liquor Dealers Association of New Jersey asked the Supreme Court to rule the 18th Amendment unconstitutional and to bar enforcement of the Volstead Act. The group contends the amendment infringes state police powers, violates the fifth amendment, and lacked proper ratification. Defendants include New Jersey, Attorney General Palmer, U S attorney Bodine, and Internal Revenue Commissioner Roper.
NEW YORK Dec 19 The general committee of the American Trap Shooting association has declined to adopt the zone plan for the sport in the United States. The country would be divided into five sections eastern southern middle west Rocky mountain and Pacific. In addition to handicap tournaments in each zone state championships and state handicaps will be held. An amateur committee to provide representation at the Olympic games was appointed.
