A fire at the Somerset saw mills on the night of Aversra M caused about $50,000 in damage. A scow laden with enslaved people sank in the Niagara River with two persons aboard.
Gov Richard J Oglesby will speak at several August and September stops including Morrison Rock Island Geneseo Aledo Monmouth Oquawka Warsaw Macomb and Gen S A Hurlburt with dates late August to early September across Virginia Cass county Petersburg Lincoln Bloomington and others Will Camback of Indiana also appears at Decatur Springfield Bloomington Clinton and Kankakee with September dates.
In Lewis county resolutions the Republican convention declares the Quixcr Wme the official organ of the party for the county. It urges all outreaches through its columns and recommends the Quixcr Wme to citizens as a worthy Republican paper.

Boston Base Bay Club defeats Pastimes of Ogdensburg 64 to 1. Cuban war vessel Pioneer forfeited to the United States. Jacob Moore, age 108, dies in Clay county Indiana. Chicago celebrates new bridges over the Sweet smelling river. Northern Ohio Fair slated for Geyeland September 10 to 14. Shipments valued at $30,000 offered. Judge Barnard to be removed from office or practice. John Kashmer of Columbus, Ohio, assaulted who tried to violate young girls.

Isaac Brandt Des Moines named G L. Amos Jones and Mrs W Porter named reps to G R W G L with proxies Wm H Fieming J Norwood Clark and Rev L P Dosch. Mt Pleasant chosen for next meeting. Grand Secretary cites Iowa membership 918 with 112 per use.
William Saunders, colored, was arrested with 3500 in Confederate States bills and Maryland bonds. He is alleged to be involved in the Maryland bond robbery. Baltimore dispatches say Saunders is wanted for other crimes. Lynch law reported in St. Louis as two men named McClellan and Donovan were lynched by citizens of Hays City.
