Wisconsin Senator urges wealth to bear war costs
In the Senate on Tuesday Senator La Follette of Wisconsin urged conscripting wealth to fund the war. He backed raising the war tax bill beyond 3.5 billion and shifting from bonds to taxes while noting Britain taxes 26 percent and warning battles ahead could push costs to 30 to 40 billion next year. He argued wealth shouldered more burden and warned of widespread poverty and higher prices unless tax-based financing increases.
