The board seeks 500 million for construction of fabricated steel ships 250 million for commandeering vessels now building in private yards and 250 million for contracts for steel and wooden ships to be let soon. The commandeering program costs about 500 million but 250 million of the original 750 million appropriation will be used for that purpose. Contracts for building fabricated ships will be set within a few days.
