Truck Trailer Fire on Route 66 Near Tucumcari
A truck trailer loaded with stuffed animals bound for the New Mexico State Fair burned when an axle bearing overheated on U S 66 about 11 miles east of Tucumcari. The Illinois owners tried to salvage remaining toys at the scene. Tucumcari postmaster Julius Fitzner announced a new post office building for the weekend with business as usual during the move. A Big Mesa Addition lot sale ad at Conchas Lake offered prizes for attendees who registered.
