Community Sought to Create Care Bags for Patients

The Extension Association of Quay County invites the public to assemble Care Bags for patients at 3 to 7 p m on Sept 17 in the Quay County Fair Building. Bags include caps scarves gloves journals game-books notepads pens pencils lotion lip balm mints calendars and encouraging notes. Quay County Group Promotes Progressive Local Change

A new countywide group, Quay County Action Group, aims to inform residents about strides by community leaders and citizens. The group, a collaboration of the Quay County/Tucumcari Chamber of Commerce and Bob Beaulieu, highlights Route 66 gas station art and promotes Tucumcari MainStreet moving its office to the Train Depot to boost tourism and resident access. Community events like Fired Up continue at the Depot, with plans for the next event in progress.

Two hurt as New Mexico officer’s squad struck head on

New Mexico State Police officer Joshua Campos was treated for minor injuries after his unit was hit head on by a Jeep driven by Severino Chavez in a crash on U S Highway 54 near Logan. Chavez suffered serious but non life threatening injuries. both were hospitalized. The crash near mile marker 313 remains under investigation.

Chubby Checker to Perform at Clovis Music Festival

Randy Petty, chair of the Clovis Music Festival Committee, hails the 70 year old star Chubby Checker as the featured performer for Saturday. The Twist singer headlines the event as fans look back with nostalgia at the local gathering. A separate history item notes the FBI aided a robbery probe and a suspect who stole 1700 dollars from a San Jon liquor store was later captured in Lubbock.
