Ace Whitson a Logan High School freshman received the New Mexico Activities Association inaugural Spirit of Sport Award at the NUAA NMADA Fall Leadership Conference banquet on Sept. 26 for his comeback after losing the lower half of his right leg in a Labor Day accident while erecting a fence.

Commission candidates weigh in on issues

In Quay County District 3 the race pits Republican Brian Fortner and Democrat Tommy Wallace. Early voting runs Oct 10 to Nov 5 at the Clerk's Office with hours 7 am to 6 pm Monday through Thursday and Nov 4-5. A ballot drop box will be available at the courthouse north side in Tucumcari. Election Day polling sites include House Community Center and six additional centers.

Quay County COVID cases drop to two new weeks

Quay County reports just two confirmed COVID-19 cases last week while total local cases rise to 2,374 since spring 2020. No deaths were recorded, keeping the toll at 68. New Mexico logs 291 new cases statewide as booster and testing orders are scaled back.
