Tucumcari Police Chief Pete Rivera awarded Patrol Officer Kevin Johnson the Medal of Valor at the city commission meeting for his life saving actions at a restaurant on October 26 when a small child allegedly choked. Johnson responded within seconds and dislodged the object until EMS arrived, saving the child’s life.
San Jon celebrated the opening of a second fire station north of town in a ceremony led by the Tucumcari Quay County Chamber of Commerce. About 40 attendees toured the new station and enjoyed snacks as officials explained funding and construction delays.
Mesalands Community College earned a perfect site visit score from the Higher Learning Commission signaling approval for its new nursing program. President Gregg Busch and Nursing Education Director Shannon Fries announced at the Nov. 15 board meeting that pre-nursing courses could start fall 2023 with nursing courses in spring 2024. The board also approved over 152000 in Pocket Nurse equipment funded by an existing grant to support simulation centers.
New Mexico Bank & Trust will operate the Logan branch only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both lobby and drive-through, due to staff shortages before the Dec. 16 closure. One employee remains at Logan with support from Tucumcari staff, and more departures have reduced capacity.
