Two people died Friday night after a northbound Toyota Camry was struck by a freight train at a rail crossing on Quay Road near U.S. 54 between Tucumcari and Logan. Pedro Jimon, 38, of Clovis, was identified as a passenger. The driver remains unnamed.

The FY2021 audit, released by the state, had seven findings including three significant deficiencies. The city was on the state at risk list due to tardy reports but was removed last week.
Quay County Clerk Ellen White reports average early voting with 1 245 ballots cast by end of Saturday ahead of Election Day. Absentee ballots total 237 with 41 not returned. White notes early voting down slightly from 2018, which saw 1 362 early voters and 178 absentee ballots.
