Review Board Seeks Volunteers for Child Advocacy Panel

The New Mexico Child Advocacy Network seeks volunteers for the Citizens Review Board which oversees abused and neglected children in state custody. Volunteers from diverse backgrounds meet monthly to review cases and make recommendations to judges and state agencies.

Planes adjust sensors as nightly missions near Tucumcari

Farrell states aircraft will circle targets to acquire data while keeping noise to a minimum to be good neighbors. The AC-130H Spectre will fly mainly Monday to Thursday nights over communities including Tucumcari prompting resident Tommy Bayler to report odd tight circles 20 to 30 times. Fire Chief Mike Cherry commented on the unusual pattern.

Firefighters Battle Multiple Small Fires, Ranchers Restore Damaged Fence

Crews responded to a cluster of small blazes across four landowners properties causing 200 acres to burn before containment. Rancher Benton Cain rebuilt fence after the flames destroyed new barriers while no structures or people were harmed. Red Flag conditions fueled fire danger statewide and Logan Fire Department works to return two damaged trucks to service.

Retiree Griffin honored as center vacancy looms

Regional director Diane Baca praises Griffin for years of service and presents a plaque. Griffin’s retirement leaves a four county vacancy but the state pledges to continue services, with interim plans and a workforce rep visiting Quay County on the first and third Wednesdays from 10 am to 3 pm at 42 W Tucumcari Blvd.

The Texas Oil Conservation Commission approves a revised pit rule proposed by Gov. Bill Richardson to reduce costs for oil and gas operators. The move aims to cut expenses by as much as 300000, with critics saying the change slows drilling and hurts the economy in New Mexico.
