Route 66 motel owner eyes 2026 tourism boom and neon plans
Brenner, owner of Roadrunner Lodge Motel in Tucumcari, reflects on reopening slow recovery after a 2014 blaze, notes 2022 peak and 2023-24 gains, and anticipates a thriving 2026 with Route 66 centennial and USA 250th anniversary. He plans a neon workshop behind the motel, a future art gallery at the closed La Plaza Court, and a retreat from day job to focus on local tourism. He served on the Lodgers Tax Advisory Board, emphasizing community tourism without high government reliance.
