New Mexico approves loan program and body camera mandate
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed two bills from the June special session. The Small Business Recovery Act provides 400 million from the Severance Tax Fund for business loans and 50 million for small governments. Eligible firms can borrow up to 75 thousand with a 1/2 prime rate over three years. The body camera law requires city, county, and state police to wear cameras and retain footage for 120 days, with penalties for noncompliance. The same bills tighten police oversight and revoke certifications for officers involved in unlawful acts.
