Xcel seeks permit for Tucumcari backup power plant

Xcel Energy asks the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission to approve a new Quay County Generating Station in Tucumcari. The diesel fueled single turbine plant would provide 22 megawatts of standby power, with a relocation of a gas turbine from Riverview Station in Borger, Texas planned for 2013. A buffer zone and phased restoration are planned to protect the single transmission line serving the city.
