Paula Chacon, longtime public servant and former Quay County manager, will begin as Tucumcari city manager on August 23 under a three year contract worth 84718.40 dollars annually. She has prior roles in Union County and the 10th Judicial District and ran for magistrate judge in 2018.
Two Quay County Fair exhibitors donated almost $11,000 from the Junior Livestock Auction to a Nara Visa couple injured in a traffic crash near the Texas border on Aug. 6. Auctioneer announcements highlighted additional donations including Payson Niall’s write‑in rabbit sale earnings to the Egertons. Beatrice White of Tucumcari and Fred White watched as a high bid of 3200 dollars was placed for a goat, with the fair hampered by fewer exhibitors and no carnival due to COVID-19.
Tucumcari officials filed an Infrastructure Capital Improvements Plan for 2024 to 2028 prioritizing a new $2.1 million landfill cell due to the current unit's limited remaining life. The list also includes a splash pad, museum renovations, and public safety equipment while Fire insurance ratings draw concern from residents.
Quay County posted 67 confirmed infections last week, the highest rate in the state with nearly 500 cases per 100 000 inhabitants. The spike prompted COVID Act Now to downgrade the county from medium to high risk and follows multiple weeks with rising cases.
