Tucumcari dog attack suspects plead guilty to charges

Mary Montoya and her son Kristopher Morris of Tucumcari admitted to a third degree felony dangerous dog count in a fatal Feb 1 2023 attack that killed Stanley Hartt. The involuntary manslaughter charge was dismissed under the plea. Both defendants face capped sentences and must refrain from animal ownership while paying various fees and donating to local programs. Judges Abigail Aragon and Michael Aragon accepted the pleas.

San Jon teen dominates beef swine shows at county fair

Addie Lafferty a San Jon High School senior swept the beef division earning grand and reserve champion steers and the Senior Showmanship prize while also taking the grand champion hog. She led the Junior Livestock Auction with the top bid of 8000 for a steer as the event totaled over 117000 in bids. Other top winners included Gavin Wallace with the swine at 4200 Guinevere Kandel lamb at 4700 and Kylee Black goat at 4500. Citizens Bank was the top buyer across five animals. The fair honored aging-out 4-H members and presented the Kath leen Box Memorial Award to Kipton Griffiths while noting board retirements.

Hayoz resigns to take assistant city manager post

S Renee Hayoz District 4 commissioner in Tucumcari resigned after applying for and winning the assistant city manager job. She had been a commissioner since November and submitted her resignation July 25 after the last regular meeting. Hayoz had been appointed to fill Christopher Arias term through 2025 after Arias resigned in September 2023. She was interviewed August 2 and offered the position last week, with a salary of 71000 per year.

Tucumcari Rotary Proposes Dog Park at George Molinas Park

The Tucumcari Rotary Club plans spending 1500 of its funds to convert part of George Molinas Memorial Park into a dog friendly area. Budget covers fencing repairs double gate entry waste stations water station and rules signs. Mayor Pro Tem expresses concern about a soccer practice area but officials say the park can be split with one section for dogs and another for soccer.
