Bowl of Rice Party Planned at Miss Fine's School Lawn

Mrs. J. Ross Stevenson chairs the Bowl of Rice Party on Thursday June 23 at 6 30 p m on the lawn of Miss Fine's School. The committee includes Mrs. Reed Anderson Mrs. George Loos Mrs. Alan Marquand Mrs. Irving Van Sant Jr and Missy Laura Turnbull. B Franklin Bunn is treasurer Jane Link handles tickets with strong demand. Dr John Finley Williamson of the Westminster Choir School will arrange a special choir to sing the Chinese National Song.

Princeton High School Adopts Constitution at Graduation

Princeton High School students have drafted and adopted a new Constitution for the Extra-Curricular Organization. Signing will occur at graduation, June 17 at 3 p m in the Playhouse at Palmer Square, with a unicameral Student Council governing all legislative powers.

Playground Directors Schedule Summer Plans at Y M C A

Six playground directors and instructors meet June 25 at the Y M C A to finalize summer programs. Community Playgrounds run July 5 to August 26 with daily supervision 2 to 5 PM and 6 30 to 8 30 PM Monday through Friday. Knights of Columbus and Princeton University allow the circus on William and Olden Street grounds July 26 as part of W P A efforts.

Lions Club Plans Bridge Action Meeting at Nassau Tavern

A Lions Club dinner meeting on June 21 at 6 30 P M at Nassau Tavern will discuss a new bridge across the Pennsylvania Railroad at Princeton Junction and a new road to Hightstown. Legislators including Senator Crawford Jamieson are expected. representatives from P R R Mercer County State Highway Department and others are invited.

Princeton High School to award 197 diplomas at June 17

Commencement at the Playhouse Palmer Square features 197 graduates including 11 post graduates. Theme Our Constitution with Ellen Coan outlining adoption and significance followed by Jack Van Overen explaining the High School Constitution. Oath and signing events, prize presentation, and a full program listed.

Princeton Library Closes For Temporary Repairs

The Free Public Library will close on Monday June 20 for repairs and an inventory. A new ceiling in the Reference Room a vestibule at the front entrance a front steps handrail and cellar alterations are planned. Reading Room space will be expanded and stacks added later. Books may be borrowed before June 19 with eight books allowed for travelers not due until October 1. May 1938 circulation totals by category sum to 6481 with fiction 3378 non fiction 3103 and other categories listed. 1937 total 5269.

Local Government Dept Created and Municipal Accounting Standards Set

Princeton Local Government Survey highlights legislative progress with bills forming a Local Government Department, a Local Government Board, and a Commissioner led by Walter R. Darby. The Local Budget Act and Fiscal Administration Act introduce budgeting classifications, cash basis rules, emergency appropriations, and enforcement procedures. The effort is backed by the New Jersey Citizens Committee chaired by Dewitt D. Barlow and funded through civic support.

Firemen Inspection Set for Wednesday June 29 in Princeton

Princeton Mayor and Council schedule the annual Firemen inspection for 7 00 p m daylight saving time on Wednesday June 29. A parade from Nassau and Olden Streets at 6 30 p m precedes the event with Engine Company No 1 Chestnut Street Hook and Ladder Chemical Company No 1 Witherspoon Street and Engine Company No 3 Chambers Street marching in order. Chiefs assistants and members wear full dress as bands including the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps perform. A short address by the Mayor follows the inspection and refreshments are served at fire houses after return.

Yale Princeton baseball game scheduled after Alumni Parade

Yale and Princeton meet at University Field at 2 30 PM following the annual Alumni Parade. About 3000 alumni in costume will march from Nassau Hall to University Field, with the parade at 1 80 PM preceding the game.

Princeton Students Nabbed After Sign Prank On Borough Hall

Three Princeton University sophomores sought subjects for Among My Souvenirs and took two porcelain globes from Borough Hall gateposts marked Borough Hall and Police. Police Officers Rodweller and Knowles nabbed them. one bulb broken. Judge Smith assessed costs and allowed replacement under supervision, noting a good time was had.
