In Indianapolis on June 26 trustees in Marion County met with the county superintendent and decided to test the Beagle case from Laurence Township. Beagle is charged with neglecting to teach means to prevent rat infection and a trustee recently was fined $10 plus costs.
Indianapolis reports twenty four deaths and about sixty prostrations over the past three days as an intense heat wave moves eastward from the Midwest. Authorities warned residents to seek shade, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activity amid the dangerous conditions.
In Stamford on June 26 Mrs. Helen M. Angle, in a private sanitarium, suffered a severe collapse on the stand during the coroner's inquest into the murder of 67 year old Walter Baliou. Police focus on motive as the inquiry pauses until her recovery.
New York June 26 reports say most subsidiary companies tied to the 34 million dollar H. B. Claflin Co. will continue business with only a temporary hitch. The parent will place John Claflin's entire fortune at the disposal of creditors and reorganizers. Officials expect dollar-for-dollar payment of obligations and a stronger firm after reorganization.
Attorney Abe L. Miller was named receiver for the Root store, a Claflin concern, in Terre Haute. He announced the store will continue business and will not close for invoice.
In New York on June 26 three creditors filed an involuntary bankruptcy petition against Defender Manufacturing Co a Claflin subsidiary. Opponents say the firm is practically solvent and will resist the receiver's appointment.

Dynamite used to blow up buildings in the path of the flames as wind hampers efforts to check the blaze.
Direct word from Mexican rebels states a general forward movement toward Mexico City is under way. General Villa will lead the assault in person and hopes to reach the capital within a month. Officials say Huerta’s defense backbone appears broken, though Villa faces desperate resistance as the campaign continues.
General Villa’s cavalry chased the fleeing federal remnant toward Zacatecas as disorder reigned. At dawn 64 federal irregulars faced execution. Villa ordered mercy for officers and privates of the regular army.
