Washington. The army appropriation bill provides for 406000 men and about 906000000 dollars in total appropriations. The House bill set 800000 men and 731000000 dollars. Full committee accepted the subcommittee report with no major changes and will report next week. the naval bill also awaits reporting.
William Billie Swanson, 69, a familiar Evansville figure, drowned Friday in the Ohio River. His body was recovered by two men fishing a trot line near Water and Vine streets. Once connected with Summers Brothers lumber in Owensville, Swanson was reportedly likely to have taken his own life. Lloyd Johnson of Chicago, visiting his parents on north Gibson street, is in town for a weekend.
The Central Labor Union of Brazil condemns the city council for denying a labor meeting in the city park on June 29. The ban cites remarks by John Welker of Illinois as disloyal. Union members plan to meet in a hall instead.
Elder Walter Gray Nolan, en route from a camp meeting in Anderson Indiana, will preach Sunday night at the Church of God located at the corner of Gibson and Water in Princeton.
Foreman L. P. Soloman of the blacksmith shop at the Southern returns Monday after a forced vacation due to an injured hand. He will oversee the sale of Chautauqua tickets at the Southern shops and assist those who wish to buy tickets there.
Miss Grace Quindry and Charles Mellinger were united in marriage Monday evening at the bride’s mother’s home in Ft Branch. Rev C A Shake officiated with only immediate family present. The bride wore ivory silk crepe and georgette with Ward roses. The couple will reside at the bride’s mother’s home after a brief trip to West Baden and French Lick Springs. Mrs L Cash and Mrs Warrick Cash of Owensville returned from Chicago after visiting friends.
Reports from Pure Food and Drug Department inspectors show six Indiana food establishments rated excellent while 87 are bad and 1,355 sites inspected overall. Dairies condemned total 23 and 13 dairies rated poor. Grocery stores deemed fairly satisfactory with some soda fountain improvements noted.
Samuel Gompers was re-elected president of the American Federation of Labor at Atlantic City. James Duncan was elected first vice president, Joseph Valentine second, and Frank Duffy third. Gompers won by an almost unanimous vote, with Julius Duncan as the lone dissent.
Washington June 21 The house judiciary committee voted 12 to 5 to deny President Wilson authority to suspend enforcement of war time prohibition on light wines and beer. The committee's amendment by Representative Gard of Ohio sought partial repeal of the wartime ban.

Breach of promise suit by Miss Amy OConor against Allen Gray of Evansville grows to 60000 before federal court in Indianapolis. Gray, owner of Princeton buildings, faces a separate $100000 claim from William Gray. Meanwhile Vincennes hosts Princeton in a big ball game with Lefty Day on the mound. autos and trains move fans to the Sunday clash as Vincennes reshapes its lineup.
The war department authorized publication of a casualty list from Friday reporting Private Roscoe Wrigley Somerville and Sergeant Angus P. Reynolds of Stewartsville killed in an accident or other causes. Private Bryce Hollen of Petersburg was wounded slightly, with the list total reaching 93 names.
The Baptist congregation bought the Main and First street lot from Frank L. Steelman to build a church. Built at an estimated cost around twelve thousand dollars, with four figures paid for the land and funds expected by August 15.
Charles Phillips arrived home Friday night from Camp Sherman after a twelve month overseas service discharge. Jasper Htitas also returned from Camp Sherman tonight after about a year overseas service.
No cases were set for trial in circuit court today as the court closes for the term. A large number of motions were considered, and overall activity was light during the week.
Mr. and Mrs James M Scantlin long familiar residents of the city returned home from Hannibal Missouri where they spent their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday June 7 at the home of Mr and Mrs Herbert Clark who celebrated their 11th anniversary. Mrs M L VanNada is reported quite sick at her home on East Emerson Street.
The deaths of Mrs Eliza Jane Tichenor at 6 29 am at her daughter's home in west Broadway after a year illness from dropsy. Age 80 10 21. Funeral Sunday at 4 pm at a White church southwest of the city. Burial in church cemetery. Surviving are three sons and one daughter. Also Mrs Matilda Binkley McCarty died shortly before noon at home southwest of the city after birth of child. She was 39. Funeral arrangements pending. Surviving are three sons, four daughters, and four brothers. Both belonged to Whitechurch, southwest. Sympathy expressed to families.
Gibson County Board of Review will hear complaints on assessments for Montgomery township Owensville Wabash township Oakland City Patoka township and city. SILAS B MORRIS President 141-da.
Weimar reports list a cabinet under Dr Edward David with ministers for finance justice interior defense and foreign affairs and a pending Erzberger appointment. Berlin says the cabinet will sign the treaty and a referendum may follow with the national assembly expected to ratify. Paris notes rapid Weimar steps toward formal approval.
Max Eastman editor of The Liberator said he would tell the secret service how he obtained a confidential State Department document about Russia. The anonymous cable allegedly from Polk to Lansing dated January 24 criticized U.S. policy and Wilson funding for a Serbian railway. Eastman revealed the paper at a radicals meeting in New York.

A playlet Through the Sunday School Door and a Morality pantomime O Zion Haste will be performed along with recitations. The public is invited. Misa Ethel Belcher of M Carmel is visiting.
