Federal authorities express optimism as more than ten million people are expected to register with minimal failures and little opposition. Local registrars receive final instructions to implement the plan nationwide.
British Army correspondent reports German prisoners scoffing at American plans while Allied leaders push for rapid U S entry. Prussian officers say Germany will starve England and Russia into submission, plan a defensive long war, and rely on submarines to hold the line. British and American troops reinforce urgency to speed American participation.
Captain Munford believes Company M of the Second Regiment will be among the first National Guard units to go to the front. Eight recruits were added to Company M recently including Clarence Harper Frank Wilkins John Sellers Charles Crow George Powers Charles H Reed John Payne and Homer Kessner. The company aims to reach full quota through volunteer enlistment and rapid recruitment after registration day.
John Cunningham, long time Hazleton public schools teacher and Hazleton High graduate, was elected county superintendent by township trustees after four ballots, final tie broken by County Auditor Armstrong. He will assume August 16 for a four year term, as a Democrat, succeeding W F Fisher.
Local warning urges all eligible men in Princeton to register tomorrow or face prison and automatic drafting after the polls close. Officials vow strict enforcement, stressing patriotism and county service, reminding that Gibson county has historically contributed to war effort and that the nation’s honor is at stake.

Mrs. W. B. Good of Washington visiting her son Walter Good of Hitch Bros. meat market suffered heart trouble during Sunday morning services at Broadway Christian church. She is reported improved and will return home Tuesday.
Banks in Gilgon County will close on Tuesday June 5 due to registration day. The measure affects all branches and service will resume the following business day.
Dr. J. M. Williams of Owensville was elected chairman of the Gibson County Defense Council at a Saturday meeting called by Judge S. L. Vandeveer. Robert N. Parrett of Princeton became vice chairman and Lawrence Sullivan of Hazelton the secretary. The group urged full registration for military service and support for Liberty Loan bonds. Regular meetings are set for the first Wednesday each month at 3:30 starting in July.
The Civic club announces a lawn fete on Tuesday evening at the Lowell school grounds to support the public playgrounds movement. A list of attractions will be released Tuesday. If rain comes the event will be postponed. The club ladies seek strong public response.
County commissioners convened in regular session this morning and spent the day approving bills. Bids for several county bridge constructions will be opened Saturday.
The city council will hold a regular semi monthly meeting tonight to discuss pending items and municipal concerns. The session aims to address local governance matters and public inquiries.
County Commissioner John R. Ford nurses a sore finger after a past incident with a food grinder. The wound is described as healing. Hershell Alvis is reported ill with rheumatism at his home on West Walnut Street.
