Washington insists the constitutionalist Carranza must be part of any pacification plan and mediation. U S representatives abroad are instructed to press for inclusion while Mediators at Niagara Falls hold themselves responsible for Carranza’s status amidst mixed reports. Officials say the situation does not threaten mediation proceedings.
General Carranza and the constitutionalists still led mediation efforts in Durango as rebels issue a Durango statement. He asserts the mediation conference has no remit over internal affairs and vows to reject mediator decisions, signaling a possible crisis in the talks.
The La Trejor railroad bridge near Vera Cruz, guarding the water plant and line into the hills, is a key strategic point. Indianapolis journal reports Louis Wien, head of the Wien detective agency, saying it was foolish to file first degree murder charges against Dr. Winters, Mrs. Winters, and W. R. Cooper to push a third degree verdict. Robert H. Abell left for Columbus, Ohio, in Newcastle. Abell had sought first degree charges to obtain a third degree outcome and claimed police hold letters involving both suspects.
In Newcastle Indiana June 2 Circuit Judge Jackson urged detective Abell to return and testify against Dr and Mrs Winters and W R Cooper on conspiracy to murder and burn a child. Evans and Dewitt offered free evidence if a grand jury is called. Threats to Winters life rise as public seeks all evidence and two post office inspectors look into an anonymous Cincinnati letter. Also notes ancient egg in Egyptian tomb and global rail mileage figures.
The thread trust was ruled a combination in restraint of trade and ordered dissolved by the United States district court of New Jersey at Trenton. The decision was announced by the Department of Justice in Washington on June 2.
William Rockefeller will be compelled to testify before the Interstate Commerce Commission about the New Haven deal despite physicians certificates fearing for his life. Attorney Folk announced that Francis Mc Adams reported Rockefeller can tell his story. J P Morgan has been asked to testify.
