Motorist Avoids Serious Crash With Switch Engine

A Chicago to Paducah motorist hit a switch engine on Hart street at Southern crossing Christmas morning. The car had minor damage. the crew stopped the locomotive in time. Attorney D. W. Duncan advised the driver to avoid suing and to focus on recovering. Maurice Mason, John Ritchie, and Curtis Wilkins were in Evansville that day.

Mrs Christina Simmon widow of Peter Simmon died Christmas morning at 3 30 o clock at the family home southeast of Haubstadt She was 56 years old and death was due to Bright s disease The funeral will be from St James church Tuesday morning at 8 30 conducted by Rev Fr Haskamp Burial will be in the church cemetery Surviving are three sons John William and Carl and four daughters Elizabeth Mary and Margaret all at home and Mrs John Kraft of Armstrong Ind

Funeral held for Mrs Emma Hopkins at Ft Branch

Mrs Emma Hopkins 70 wife of Dr W G Hopkins died Saturday after a three week tuberculosis illness. Funeral was Monday at their home with burial in Walnut Hill cemetery. She was born in Newart Kentucky and attended the Southern Methodist church. Survived by husband, daughter Mabel, and four sisters Mrs Alice Porter Ridgeway Illinois Mrs Fannie Crawford Zenith Illinois Mrs Anna Lamb East St. Louis and Mrs W S Phillips Ridgeway Illinois.

Falls On Ice Injures Mrs Fisher In Chicago Visitor Visit

Mrs. C. W. Fisher of Chicago and formerly from this city slipped on ice at the Brownlee place home of her sister Mrs. I. M. Colvin. The extent of injuries is not yet known.

Enjoined from Debrating Sunday Show by Posey Court

The Noble theatre was barred from operating a Sunday afternoon moving picture show by a temporary restraining order issued in Posey county. The order, served at 2 15 p m, followed a petition by the Law and Order League, with proceedings in Gibson county captioned State of Indiana v United Theatres and Amusement Co. The management refunded paid admissions as required. A hearing is scheduled for next Friday at 9 a m before Judge Baltzell in Gibson county.

Elks Charity Ball Set for December 28 at Odd Fellows Hall

The Elks lodge will host its third annual charity ball on Tuesday evening December 28 at the Odd Fellows hall. Proceeds support local charitable work. Brown's Orchestra from Vincennes will provide music for a formal event.

Christmas Cheer Noted in Princeton Community

Christmas brought cheer to Princeton as churches held events and the Salvation Army distributed 120 baskets valued at $5 each containing a chicken. Elks Lodge hosted a party for about 650 to 700 city children white and colored plus orphans from Patoka, with shows and treats.

Angels Sing at Methodist Hospital Christmas Visit

Carollers in white visited rooms from 5 30 to 6 00 am serenading Methodist hospital patients with letters and stories. Billy Wolfington and Boy Scouts delivered gifts at 10 am. Mrs Susan Hyneman, 100, cried with joy as Representative Claude A Smith spoke, saying the angels came this morning.

City hall overflowed as Christmas treats were handed to poor youngsters. Army reports lack of itemized expenses but receipts from kettles and solicitations totaled 216 dollars used for event costs. Baskets also sent to Francisco and Oakland City.

J W Stott of Princeton superintendent of schools escaped injury when his car collided with a taxi at Fourth and Broadway Christmas morning. Both vehicles overturned and the taxi driver was slightly hurt. Stott did not continue to Bloomington where he had started his trip.

Bandits Steal Safe From Express Wagon Near Union Station

Five armed bandits held up an American Express wagon near Union Station in Kansas City. They forced the driver to exit and opened a lock, loading a safe containing money and jewelry into their car. Express officials offered no loss estimate.
