Cod Fishing Association Formed in Victoria

A cod fishing company is organized in Victoria to operate in Behring Sea waters with capital of 1200000. Incorporators include R T Elliott K C H H Shandley Sprott Balcom Reuben Balcom and Arthur R Langley. Two schooners are planned for Behring Sea. Pacific Net and Twine Company to Open in Prince Rupert

Prince Rupert's fishing industry rapidly grows ranking among top Pacific ports. August figures from Pacific Fisherman show independent schooners in Seattle at 1,879,000 pounds and company vessels at Seattle at 635,000 pounds. Arrivals at Prince Rupert reach 1,793,500 pounds while Vancouver shows 1,099,000 pounds and Steveston 354,000 pounds.

Allies capture more heavy guns on Champagne front

Paris dispatch reports British fleet action and heavy artillery support along the Belgian coast. In Champagne the Germans lost ground near Mesnil and Massiges as Allied forces expanded gains. the total field guns and heavy pieces captured since September 25 reached 121 with several prisoner takings and a bombing run on Guignicourt station.

Alaska Steamship buys two freighters for Alaska route

The Alaska Steamship Company pays about 400000 to acquire the steel freighters Bennington and Burlington from Rutland Transit. They will be placed in service between Seattle and southeastern and southwestern Alaska, brought via the Panama Canal, with crews sent east to man them.
