Allied forces fight to regain ground in France as May reports describe continued actions. More than fifty American boats arrived with halibut, and additional catches were landed yesterday, signaling active U S presence at sea and in coastal markets.
Itaba, a Japanese man, pleaded guilty to stealing two boats from a cannery and tools from a cabin, and was sentenced by Judge Young to two years in jail. The case followed a prior discovery of the vessels on Stevens Island while Itaba was repainting them. The report notes rising American boat landings and fish catches at the port under new regulations, with Sitka and Vesta among vessels landing substantial quantities.
The body of 35 year old Thomas Doyle of Naden Harbor has been found by an Indian off Cape Edenshaw on Graham Island Queen Charlottes. Doyle was last seen May 7 when he left Naden Harbor for Massett and was missing for several weeks. Police received the discovery report from the province.

The Dominion Government launches Metra placed at the disposal of Noel Ogilvie of the Geodetic Survey. It is a coal oil powered vessel with 55 horsepower, electric lighting, and room for 14 people. It cruises at 1 to 2 knots.
Paris reports very spirited actions north of Arras with new progress despite counter attacks. The refinery at Souchez changed hands, then was retaken by Germans before Allied forces drove them out at daybreak. In Labyrinth the Allies advance taking about 150 prisoners as German works crumble.
Reported capture of Windhoek by General Botha transfers a territory larger than Ontario to Britain. The piece argues German military focus, high spending on fortifications and blockhouses spurred by war prep, while development for settlers lagged.
Capt Clayton of the 48th Battalion leaves to join Canada’s newly formed Dental Corps at Ottawa in June. Lt Clarke is expected to follow, as the body of fifty one dentists sails to front duty or orders. The unit will be commanded by Lieut Col Armstrong with volunteers from Vancouver and Victoria.
