Official report states Turkish forces from Yemen with Arab support and field guns crossed toward Lahej in Southwest Arabia and compelled British to fall back on Aden, menacing the free port.

Prairie Tourists Boost Traffic on Dominion Line

Increasing traveler flow over the Dominion line last evening brought in three sleeper cars from the east as tourists from the prairie provinces arrive to see the line and Prince Rupert. Many will continue south, some plan to return later in the season.

End of German Southwest Africa as British control

Pretoria reports General Botha has accepted the unconditional surrender of all German military forces in German Southwest Africa. The area covers 322,450 square miles with a population of about 80,000.

General Superintendent Mehan Returns From District Tour

W. C. C. Mehan general superintendent of the G. T. P. arrived back in the city last night after a district tour that extended to Edmonton. J. H. Todd, superintendent, with headquarters at Smithers, also arrived.

Vice-President Donaldson of GTP in City Last Night

Morley Donaldson the GTP vice president and general manager arrived in the city by private car attached to the eastbound train. He briefly stayed to connect with a fish train and return to Winnipeg, noting abnormal conditions and strong but subnormal trade. The visit included a funeral procession for Miss Gurd at Indian village Metlakatla.

British Advances North of Ypres Reported After Bombardment

Despatch from Sir John French says British gains north of Ypres on July 6 after a two night two day bombardment. Germans retreated, enabling extended British advance. German losses described as severe.

London July 9 The German note to the United States reiterates that American ships engaged in lawful trade will not be interfered with and promises not to harm Americans on neutral ships The reply also says German submarines will allow American passenger ships to pass and that a reasonable number of neutral passenger ships under the American flag may sail safely.

Canadian Fisherman Editor Visits Pacific Coast Fishing Scene

JP William Wallace, editor of the Canadian Fisherman, arrived from Hast to study the industry on the Pacific coast. He plans to visit the fishing banks and report on the industry before returning.

Grand Trunk Pacific Rail Line Aims Open By July 18

The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway is expected to be open from Atlantic to Pacific by July 18. It will link Prince Rupert to Winnipeg and connect with the National Transcontinental to Cochrane and the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway to North Bay. Passengers will then be carried over the Grand Trunk to eastern points. An inauguration date will be announced soon.

Pacific Coast Tour Begins with Pittsburg Pair

James II. Good and Irwin George, arrivals by last night’s train in Pittsburg, Pa., are touring the Pacific coast starting with Spokane, Vancouver, Seattle, and other cities as listed. The report notes several baseball scores from last night across the Northwest and national leagues.

Halibut Train Move Signals Fish Industry Significance

A seven car special express train of fresh halibut pulled out for the east last evening around 9:20 from Cold Storage. The cars were G T P express refrigerators replacing Great Northern stock, underscoring rising industry importance and increasing Prince Rupert trade activity.
