Halibut Booms as 280000 Pounds Reach Port

London reports HM S Arethusa struck a mine on the east coast of England and feared total loss. About ten men were lost. The light armored cruiser, completed three years ago, was serving on various lines benefitted by the war. The Premier promised careful consideration.

Indemnity Bylaw Passed By Council For 1916

The council approved an indemnity bylaw for 1916 fixing the Mayor’s pay at 1500 and Aldermen at 300 each. Ald. McClymont sought a clause to fine absentees, but withdrew after concerns about hardship and feasibility.
