Photoplay Kilmeny stars Lenore Ulrich at the Westholme tonight and Thursday with Famous Player scenery and a Topical Budget. Also Ottawa budget imposes war taxes on munitions profits and various corporate net profits.
Mr. Goldbloom, visiting the city, displays a bear skin at the Hotel Prince Rupert. The greyish pelt is unlike any known variety, with many observers unable to explain its coloration and noting the skin is said to originate from the north.
Slaughter prices listed at Tite's and M. M. Stephens rents houses are noted. Iron beds, springs and mattresses featured in local market listings.
A 102nd Battalion smoker in the Majestic Theatre proved highly popular with officers and men of the Northern British Columbia Battalion and the Irish Fusiliers present. Major Huntington chaired, Prof. Harvey earned cheers, Prince Rupert Company showed musical talent, and Miss Nelson danced the Highland Fling and Sailors Hornpipe to the delight of all.
A general conference of the Allies will be held in Paris to consider political and strategic war aspects. Premier Asquith cited improved British Mesopotamia situation and Lord Kitchener reported eight divisions added in France. Rumor of Italy declaring war on Germany in March circulates in Rome. Red Cross home cooking sale set for Friday, with Mrs. Frank Holland and Mrs. W H Vickers coordinating.
The 1916 order renews fishing bait bonding privileges for foreign registered vessels in British Columbia ports. It allows landing and bonding of fresh fish in Canada with duties waived, and permits purchase of bait and supplies for vessels, contingent on catches being landed on the mainland and exported in bond. beneficiaries include H. S. Clements and J. B. Merryfield.
Sir George Paish at the London School of Economics warned that in 1916 Britain would face its severest test of economic and financial strength as it plans to loan allies and colonies at least 400 to 600 million pounds and sustain a larger navy and 4 million troops. He argued Britain’s strength lay in its perceived mediocrity, not genius, a view he said protected the nation.

A 1916 correspondence from Prince Rupert clarifies the writer did not instigate criticism of the City Market or council actions. The writer denies attempts to benefit himself or family and condemns misrepresented claims while expressing personal discomfort with ongoing public debate.
Work is underway on the repairs to the roof of the Provincial Government wharf.
