The Royal Edward, sunk in the Aegean by a German submarine, carried over fifteen hundred aboard with six hundred saved. Built in Glasgow in 1908 for Canada and Bristol routes, she later served tourist traffic between Alexandria and Marseilles. Personnel aboard were reinforcements for the 29th division on Gallipoli.
