Preston High Hosts District Wide Homecoming Friday

Preston High plans a district Homecoming with all schools out for events. The pep rally starts tonight, alumni assemble Friday at 10, and the Homecoming game at 12 30 features Preston versus Montpelier for the big blue wheel. County Levies To Show Drop Across Most Areas

County audit certification shows tax levies in decline in most districts with Oxford City likely not levying. Weston Mills raises from 2.40 to 2.4849 mills while general property taxes increase countywide due to higher valuation. School district levies remain: Grace 3.50, Eerste 4.60, Westide 4.55.

Petition Time Opens For City Offices In County

Petitions for city offices may be turned in to the city clerks in county communities starting Thursday. The deadline is October 6. In Preston about five petitions have been taken out with no clear candidate names. vacancies include council seats held by Keith Larson and Lyle Shipley and the mayoral post.

Lions Install Park Fountain

The Preston Lions club poured concrete for an extension of the Lions Shelter slab and began installing a water fountain in the City Recreation Park. The fountain will stand near the fireplace at the east end of the Lions Shelter, which the club placed in the park years ago.

Record soda consumption climbs in Franklin county trends

Special to The Citizens reports a surge in soda pop use in Franklin county with residents drinking 218 eight-ounce bottles per person annually, totaling 1,744,000 bottles nationwide. The outlay reached $185,000 last year, up from $994,000 a decade ago, with teens and young adults the heaviest buyers.

Man Injured In Auto Wreck On Highway 34

Leonard B. Sharp 18 of Preston was injured Friday when his car rolled several times on a curve on Highway 34, 16 miles north of Preston. Three passengers were uninjured and he was treated at Franklin County Hospital.

Pep Club Plans Dance On Field At West Side High

The West Side Pep club will sponsor a public dance Saturday on the West Side high school football field. It will be held under the lights with a live band and begin at 8 p.m. Music will be provided by a local band.

The Franklin County Assessor's office announced that all 1970-71 validation stickers for the new staggered license plate system will go on sale Oct. 1. Assessor Marlow Funk urged immediate application to the lower right corner of the plate and removal of any 1969 sticker pieces.

Utah State Fair Rabbit Winners From Franklin County

Franklin county exhibitors collected multiple awards at the Utah State Fair. L Richard Jensen of Lewiston won senior doe and best of show among 327 rabbits, plus Best of Breed in Latins and Best of Breed Silver Marten. Nominating Petitions Open in Preston District

State law requires petitions signed by at least 10 qualified electors owning land or residing in the district. David Smart, secretary of the present board of supervisors, said nominating petitions are available at Ackrell Building in Preston and must be secured and returned by October 4.
