Kay Cherrington Crowned Miss Franklin County
Kay Cherrington was named Miss Franklin County at a Aug. 20 contest in the Preston High School auditorium. She will represent the county in the Miss Idaho contest next June and will reign as queen for the centennial year. Eleven contestants competed with five finalists. Dincen Choules crowned Cherrington, with Sharon Rawlings and Cheryl Geddes as runners-up.

California Woman Dies on Williston Road Trip
Ann Katherine Henningsen, 73, of Los Angeles, died Monday at 1 p.m. of a heart attack near the Corner Cafe while en route from California to Williston, North Dakota to visit relatives. Passersby aided her before the body was sent to Williston for funeral services and burial.

Service Station Operator Wins 400 In Contest
John B. Martin of Preston, operator of a service station on South State Street, received a $400 check after winning top honors in ANCOs nationwide Man Hunt contest. The program, run by The Anderson Company of Gary Indiana, rewards station operators whose outlets earn a Man Hunt spot through February to November this year. Martin also earned $130 in ANCO windshield wiper products and becomes a monthly finalist with a chance at a December grand prize of $2,000.

Edith Johnson 42 Dies in Self Inflicted Car Tragedy
Edith Johnson a 42 year old Preston resident and anesthetist was found dead in a parked foreign made car near Preston cemetery gate Friday morning. Investigators say she died by self inflicted suffocation with a plastic bag and ether inside the bag. Sheriff Talbot and Coroner Larsen ordered autopsy. Pocatello pathologist affirmed death by own action. Funeral held in Pocatello and burial at Preston cemetery. Survivors include her father Jim Johnson of Pocatello and other Preston relatives.

Local Farm Bureau Trio Wins District Talent Contest
The Bear Lake County Bear Lake Fair talent night crowned a district winner trio Joan Woodward Sharon Rawlings and Anna Lee Fisher with accompanist Lynda Knudson. Craig Valentine from Paris earned a trophy with a saxophone solo. Another trophy went to Marsha Benson of Preston for a vocal solo. Winners advance to the Idaho Farm Bureau convention in Payette in November with a state winner to attend the national conference in Chicago in December. Jayce gave the district talk and received a trophy and will compete at the state convention.
