Franklin County Fair Opens to Record Crowd and New Features
The Franklin County fair began with a record opening crowd noted by fair board chair William Robinson. About 1,000 attended the 4-H style revue in Oneida, and the Farm Bureau fun day drew large attendance with judging of junior livestock and exhibits. New community booths and a flower show plus seed exhibits debuted in the new fair building. Douglas Wright and Henry Drury and Sons won grand champion dairy ribbons. More than 160 Holstein cattle were shown, with strong sheep and hog exhibits and eager volunteers aiding the event.

Crowds Attend Fun Day at Preston High Talent Show
About 500 people filled the Preston High auditorium for a county talent contest. Winners in the 13–18 group included Karen Nielson with a soprano solo and Judith Gailey with a piano piece. In the 18–28 group Yvonne Archibald won a piano solo, a girls quartet took second, and Charlotte Owen led the talk meet with democracy as the topic. Dennis Thompson won second in the talk segment.

The Preston High School registration period begins Monday with principal Bronghley announcing that registrations are complete. Students will receive preliminary instructions on the first day and pay a $12 fee covering books and activities. New faculty additions include two to three teachers, with desks cleaned. The football league includes Preston Malad Blackfoot joining Rupert Oakley Burley Jerome Gootling Filer and Buhl in the fourth district. Court fines three lets six go in cases this week
Three men aged 21 to 25 were fined $100 each in probate court for trespassing on Virgil Archibald’s Dayton property. Six youths 16 to 18 faced charges of stealing gasoline and tools worth over $100 and were released to parental custody. Three Fairview girls accompanying the group were also with the offenders.

Burglars Steal Merchandise From Weston Warehouse

At a Franklin county commissioners meeting on Monday in the courthouse nine people were elected to the Franklin county hospital board. Ray Croshaw was chosen chairman and Clyde Condié vice president.
