Turkish finance official studies American farm credit methods

Ferda Okar assistant director of the Turkish Agriculture Bank visited Preston to learn U S farm credit systems. He noted Turkey has 700 agriculture bank offices and 700 agriculture credit cooperatives, with many farmers owning land and farm sizes ranging 40 to 60 acres on average. He compared Turkish and American practices and observed Idaho’s farming resembles Turkey. his tour then continued to South Carolina, West Virginia, and Washington before returning home.

Ruins Uphold Book Conference Told by Milton R Hunter

Milton R. Hunter told Oneida Stake members that studies of South American ruins support the divinity of the Book of Mormon. He has visited 11 Mexico trips five Central America and three South America to study ruins. He compared ancient American civilization to Greece and Rome, noting evidence for the Book of Mormon. Various church leaders spoke at the stake conference including Jerry Wells and Clair Johnson. M/Sgt Kenas Akers will visit Preston Thursday at the selective service office then the Johnson Hotel.

Preston Krazy Daze Parade Boosts Harvest Prince Contest

Preston merchants plan a Krazy Daze promotion featuring a parade of participants in Krazy costumes and a harvest prince and princess contest with about 40 entrants. The Preston Jaycettes sponsor the prince and princess and two attendants, with prizes. Mayor and Mrs. Ross Plant of Richmond will serve as judges. A Moonlight sale runs 8 to 10 p.m. with deep discounts on socks, donuts, books, tuna, masks, and other bargains touted as among Preston’s best in 20 years.

District Forest sells Alpine Fir trees to the public

The District Forest office in the Frankie county courthouse invites individuals to purchase Alpine Fir trees cut from Canyon and Williams Creek areas. Trees range 3.5 to 8 feet and can be kept in good condition with proper care. Pickup times vary by day, and tags are issued to buyers.

Painter Wins Best in Show At Idaho Sun Valley Art Show

The artist earned $175 for first place and $75 at the Idaho Association annual Sun Valley conference. Her painting was judged best in show and awarded top honors.

Hansen to Visit Preston During Idaho Tour

Rep. George Hansen of Idaho will visit Preston next week as part of a district tour. Richard Hendricks says Hansen will be in Preston on Thursday with details to be announced. The visit is expected between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Building permits rise in Preston area nine months in

Building permits in Preston for the first nine months total $136 100 with 177 permits issued. In the eastern area including Preston Pocatello American Falls Blackfoot Rees St Anthony Montpelier and surrounding unincorporated areas there were 1374 permits valued at $17 490 678, per Ted Steers of First Security Bank.
