Leaders Tour Five Mile Project To See Spillway Results

Leaders review the completed installation of 18 rock spillways along the Five Mile channel cutting five to seven feet of fall. The project phase cost 7310.99 from 24 contributors including Utah Idaho Sugar Co and Amalgamated Sugar Co. The next phase will plant black willows and thousands of Russian olive trees to protect habitat and game.

Milo's Drive-In Announces Big Grocer of the Month Sale

Milo's Drive-In launches a two day sale labeled grocer of the month beginning Friday. Milo Hobbs, July merchant of the month, will have extensive in store promotions and TV coverage on KSL TV. Uncle Roscoe of KSL TV appears to attract families with a cartoon drawing event and a snack party.

Franklin County Hospital Dedication Slated Oct 27

Officials announced the dedication of the new Franklin County Hospital for Wednesday October 27. Senator Henry Dworshak will participate in the program and an open house will follow in the afternoon and evening.

Car Stolen Here Found On Fire In Salt Lake City

A 1951 four door sedan stolen from a downtown Preston street Saturday night was found ablaze in Salt Lake City hours later. The Denton family reported the loss at 12 10 and police alerted with a radio broadcast. Fire officials said the gasoline fire was deliberate and the vehicle was transported across state lines, now under FBI control.

County Agent Attends First Western Convention

Daniel Roberts attended the national county agents convention in Salt Lake City from Sunday to Thursday. It was the first convention held west of Denver with delegates from surrounding states and territories. Ezra Taft Benson spoke Tuesday evening. C. F. Ferguson spoke Wednesday. D R Theophilus was set as tonight's principal speaker. Roberts cochaired the reception committee for the five day event.

Smylie to Head Idaho Governor Rally in Preston

Robert Smylie the Republican gubernatorial nominee will be chief speaker at a Preston rally next Wednesday evening October 20 at 8 o clock in the Tall theatre Other state candidates on the program include J Berkley Larsen GOP nominee for lieutenant governor and Graydon W Smith Republican nominee for attorney general The rally organized by Franklin County Young Republicans will also feature local party members and candidates.

Local Girls Guests Of Wool Growers Contest

Twenty seven girls from eastern Idaho will be guests of wool growers at the annual Make It Yourself With Wool contest. It will be held at the Preston Elks lodge on Oct 23 at 2 p.m. Public invited. Contestants must create garments from wool and wear them themselves. Ages 14 to 22.

Preston grocers set uniform hours this week

Operators and managers of Preston grocery stores met to fix common hours. They agreed to open at 8 a.m. and close at 6 30 p.m. Monday through Friday and stay open until 8 p.m. on Saturdays.

Fall Down Stairs Kills Man in Utah Home

J Wilford Simister 43 of Coalville Utah died Saturday night from a cerebral hemorrhage after a fall down a stairway at Mrs Hattie Wallgren home. The accident happened about 10 30 p m Saturday. He was born in Coalville September 29 1911. Survivors include a son and daughter his mother three brothers and two sisters. Services were held Tuesday in Coalville.

Oneida Stake Conference Schedule Set for Oct 16 17

Oneida stake to hold quarterly conference Saturday and Sunday October 16 and 17. First session begins 6 30 pm Saturday with ward leaders and elders meeting at 8 pm. General sessions Sunday at 10 am and 2 pm with Alma Sonné and Dr W W Richards as speakers. Shirley Palmer will preside.

West Side Pirates Defeat American Falls 25-6 in Final Game

West Side Pirates closed the season with a 25-6 victory over American Falls Friday night. Bergeson and Tingey led scoring with a quarterback sneak from the eight and a long 7-yard run, while Neuen swander contributed on each drive. The game featured hard, aggressive play as both sides fought to end the season strong.

Wright Rites Set After Mapleton Resident Dies at 70

Lorenzo M Wright 70 of Mapleton died yesterday at 12 30 p m at his family home from a heart ailment He was born Aug 2 1884 in West Jordan Utah son of John G and Ruth Judd Wright He married Sylvia Woolf Aug 22 1906 in the Lake LDS temple He moved to Franklin County in 1910 first to Riverdale then to Mapleton in 1924 and farmed He was active in the LDS Church serving as Ward teacher building committee chairman and an elder Survivors include his wife and sons Orson I Wright Rodney L Wright Archie Wright all of Preston and daughters Mrs Emma Taylor Dea Wright of Mapleton Lynn Wright Dixs ox and Mrs Lola Bailey Continued on page 10

Franklin County Rural Youth winners set for TV appearance

Four Franklin county first place winners in the district Rural Youth talent find in American Falls on Sept. 25 will appear on KID Idaho Falls television Monday. Karen Nielson won vocal top honors with accompanist Karen Tingey. Rama Drury and Neil Nelson won novelty with a tango dance. Charlotte was selected from three speakers to appear on TV with “Democracy Doesn’t Just Happen” and will compete at the state Farm Bureau convention for a trip to the national convention in New York in December. Franklin County leads Rural Youth, with officers Von Hawkes and Vannda Oliverson.
