This week 592 applications were received for deer permits in unit one at the Pocatello game preserve on Nov 18 19. Melvin J. Greaves, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas K Greaves of Preston, is named associate professor of civil engineering at Utah State Agricultural College. He held private engineering roles in Pittsburgh and later earned a USAC BS in irrigation engineering in 1939 and a Cornell MS in civil engineering in 1940. He is an Army Signal Corps veteran and inventor with projects in ore separation and hydraulic energy recovery. He plans to run his Preston area farm this summer and assist his father, a local general contractor.

McWhorter Dies in Franklin After Brief Illness
Julia C Caf Ferty McWhorter died Tuesday afternoon at the Franklin home of her daughter Mrs. Fern Wilkinson after a brief illness. Born February 2 1880 at Fairview she was the daughter of Pure man and Annie V Crumb Caf Ferty. She married Fay McWhorter in 1908 at Fairview and lived in Smithfield Lewis ton and Fairview. Survived by Iona Colby Chicago Fay Beckstead Preston Fern Wilkinson Franklin Lt Frank R McWhorter US Army five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Preston second ward chapel with burial in the Fairview cemetery per Webb Mortuary.

Glenn Tanner of Preston and Barrus Lamar of Sugar City are among Idaho youths selected for the 120 member National FFA Band. They will perform in Kansas City October 9 to 12 and bassoon is Tanner’s instrument. Dr Henry S Brunner of Pennsylvania State College led the selections to ensure a balanced band after 500 applicants. The group meets in Kansas City for practice and will march in the American Royal parade on October 14.
