Consolidation Plan Outlined by Simpson at Rotary

Thatcher Farmer Buried Wednesday in Thatcher
Howard Elmer Thatcher 72 former farmer and LDS church worker died Monday at his daughter’s Thatcher home. Born December 15 1902 in Logan Utah he served a California mission 1898 1900 and held roles as Thatcher Second Ward bishop Ban nock stake clerk school board member. Surviving six daughters fourteen grandchildren siblings and half siblings. Funeral services were held Wednesday November 28 (Continued on page 12).

Franklin county to honor war hero Pfe Leonard Brostrom
A posthumous Congressional Medal of Honor presentation honoring Pfe Leonard Brostrom will be made Thursday at the Franklin stake tabernacle. Brig. Gen. Hardaway will represent the president and Brostrom’s father, Carl Brostrom, will accept the medal for the family. Governor Arnold Williams and Ezra T Benson will represent Idaho and the LDS Church.

Large Cougar Bagged By Two Hunters Near Franklin
Tom Hawes and Pete Wickham bagged a large cougar Monday afternoon east of Franklin. The 150 pound, eight foot long cat is the largest reported in the area. They tracked it after snow and used Wickham’s hounds to drive it to a cliff where Wickham shot it. Hunters say predators persist as deer numbers drop. A coyote was also shot during the day.

The Franklin County Sugar Company completed its annual run this week with the last tonnage processed Wednesday. Factory manager Jed Lewis said results were better than last year but below normal due to a shorter growing season. All county beets were harvested despite cold early conditions, aided by about 300 German POWs. the prisoners are expected to be transferred to army prison centers next week with an officer overseeing arrangements.

Sheriff Lee Hansen led a Tuesday air search from the local airport with pilot Phil West to check Ut border north to Immiration can yon. Deer were widespread in lower elevations as planes scoured Gentile Valley Williams Creek Soda Point and Bear Lake county. About 1900 head were placed on the range. Franklin County and Mink Creek stock associations report all but eight and four cattle accounted for respectively.
