Franklin County Sugar Company pays growers for 1948 beets
The Franklin County Sugar Company issued payments to beet growers totaling $9.50 per ton for beets delivered in October and November with $2.54 per ton yet to come from the AAA office as checks are prepared. Final 1948 payments will follow sugar price and sales, per a letter from Thomas Heath, the general manager, assuring the Preston factory will remain operating since 1924.

Preston Rifle Club Turkeys At Sunday Shoot Highlight Season

Former Resident Robert Heywood Killed in California
Robert Heywood, 74, longtime Preston area native who had lived in Salt Lake and Long Beach, Calif, was killed November 9 when stepping from a curbing in Long Beach. He had worked at Preston Milling Co and later moved to Salt Lake City before settling in Long Beach. Services were held in Long Beach on November 12. He is survived by nephew William Nutter of Santa Ana.

D W McGregor of Mound Valley Dies
D W McGregor 59 prominent Mound Valley resident and church leader died suddenly Thursday morning at the local hospital after a heart attack earlier in the week. He was born November 10 1889 in Salt Lake City son of J D McGregor Sr and Mary Perry McGregor and had lived in Mound Valley his entire life. He married Lenora Bennett December 18 1911 in Logan and later received their endowments at the Logan temple. He served as bishop of the Mound Valley ward for 15 years and was a member of Bannock stake at his death. He is survived by his wife five children nine grandchildren and two brothers C P McGregor and J D McGregor of Mound Valley.

The Franklin County Whitney factory marks its shortest beet campaign in 131 days with 43 000 tons of beets sliced and 11 600 000 pounds of sugar processed. The Preston Alpha Beta chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International sorority sponsors the first annual Blot Out Deafness drive during Nov 21 27. Officials note a national shortage of trained personnel to find hearing impaired children and announce 700 scholarships for audiology teachers and nurses along with 700 audiometers for schools and health departments. Leaders Win Special Recognition for Work in 4-H
Two Franklin County 4-H leaders Owen Gibson and Barbara McGregor received special recognition in Pocatello last week. Gibson completed five years as a club leader directing health forestry and other programs for about 90 members with 10 completing courses.
