More than 450 Future Homemakers of America from seven teen schools will converge on Preston High for the fifth district FHA convention. Boyd Davis boatswain's mate led the top Coast Guard rifle team at Seattle, scoring 325 with a perfect .22 shot. His team totaled 1870 to top 26 rivals by seven points, as Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis A. Davis of Preston, contributed from his Coast Guard service after a local school career.

Home room mothers and school officers met Thursday afternoon for tea hosted by President Carol Thornton. Gae Murdock gave opening prayer. Roma Hymas Esther Merrill and Arlene Porter sang. Eva Lynn Casperson read. The group asked parents to keep children home until 9 am school start and 12 50 pm dismissal, and to mark coats and boots. Five Heifers Killed In Highway Collision
Five young cows were killed when George M. Dalton of Grace collided with them on Highway 34 near Treasures ton Saturday at 8 PM. Dalton was uninjured though his car suffered about 300 dollars in damage, according to Sheriff Ray Talbot.

A select Preston High School group attended the district fall music clinic in Montpelier as part of the fifth district music activity association. Seventeen hundred musicians performed under Prof. Daniel Martino, with Preston students placed in the clinic band and highlighted by a gala concert. The Preston group was joined by instructors John P. Manning and Lyle Shipley. The department’s next event is the fall concert on Friday November 20 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
