Veterans Memorial Dedication in Franklin County
A granite monument honoring Franklin County veterans and two Medal of Honor recipients Nathan Van Noy Jr. and Leonard C Brostrom will be dedicated this Saturday at 11 am in Preston city cemetery. The event features Howard Johnson, the Preston cemetery board, the Preston National Guard, Edgley and Hart as speakers, with music by the Preston High School band and funding from cemetery donors.

Special to the Citizen notes rising ownership of cars and high priced appliances in Franklin County from 1960 to 1967. Ownership of two or more cars rose to 21.1 percent, washing machines 86.6 percent, air conditioners and dryers expanding, TV sets at 86.2 percent, and dishwashers and radio phonographs rising as affluence grows.

Hansen to Speak at No Host Lunch and Farm Bureau Meeting
Rep George V Hansen will address a no host luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Commerce with stops in the county for the Franklin County Farm Bureau annual meeting on Thursday and Preston on Friday morning. Hendricks says Hansen will meet locals from 10 am to noon to discuss issues. The Farm Bureau dinner in Dayton ward cultural hall starts at 8 pm Thursday with Shuman and Church scheduled to speak at the state meeting next week. Raylene Miles, daughter of Mr and Mrs Dre Vieiles, broke her right arm Friday while playing at school.

Preston Plans Record Christmas Street Decorations
Preston will spend about 1400 on city streets and the county courthouse for Christmas decor. The county approved more decorations, the chamber may match up to 500 for street displays, eight sets of wishing rings were ordered, and a large Merry Christmas sign will adorn the courthouse.

Graveling progresses on State Route 34 to Riverdale
District highway engineer Wallace Seam ons reports 63 percent completion of the five mile graveling project on State Highway 34 between Riverdale and the Treasureton summit. Asphalt mat is planned for next spring and the state will assume maintenance during winter. The Treasureton to Cleveland segment remains, with final section programmed for 1969 pending funding and potential changes due to federal austerity. The highway board will review the two year plan in December.

A West Side High School and Utah State University graduate with a degree in animal science he earned his DVM at Washington State University. He previously practiced in Wyoming and for three years in Brooks Alberta Canada. He is married to Lois Schwaneveldt of Weston and the family has four children. Franklin County cities elect new council members and first mayor
Franklin elects several new city council members and designates Harley D. Lowe as the first mayor after city status. Lowe defeated his brother Dennis 111 to 74. W P Waddoups won a council seat, Glenn Call and Glenn Gamble secured reelection, and more local races occurred in Weston Dayton Clifton and Preston. A spaghetti dinner fundraiser at Preston Community church supports the Presbyterian Fifty Million Fund.
