Rumors of Chain Gang Beatings Denied by Officials
Sheriff Ray Talbot and City Police Chief Harold Campbell dismissed rumors of a citywide “chain gang” assault in Franklin County. An alleged 23 year old witness confessed the tale was false after questioning. Officials urged residents to disregard the unfounded reports and noted no corroborating evidence or official complaints.

Four Automobiles Damaged In City Accident
Four cars were damaged Sunday October 28 at 12 10 PM near Preston hospital. Lee R Mink a Preston Junior High student driving a 1956 station wagon struck a 1951 two door then the 1956 station wagon owned by Eldon Hansen was hit, causing dents and broken tail light. A 1953 four door belonging to Clyde Nielsen also suffered damage. Mink wagon front end frame were damaged with estimated total 500 dollars. Mink received a police citation for negligent driving.

First Lt Lynn F Johnson of Preston lands another milestone mission as part of the 58th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron. The unit began the Starmigan mission at Ladd AFB Alaska on March 17 1947 and has logged over three years in flight and about 6 million miles over northern Alaska and the Arctic Ocean. Johnson joined the 18th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron in 1955 and serves as an aerial weather observer.
