Brucellosis Testing Under Way In Franklin County
A team of five USDA veterinarians is testing cattle for brucellosis in Franklin County and surrounding areas. Delbert Frazier of Medford Oregon works from a temporary lab at Howell Motel in Preston testing herds in the Gray's Lake area Caribou County. Dr Richard Hobbs says the effort will run for weeks with about 500 herds in the county to be tested and quarantines used for infected groups. The project, beginning in Treasureton Mink Creek and expanding to Oneida and Bonneville counties, aims to find infected herds before mixing with healthy stock and may take six months.

Franklin voters re-elected Mayor Floyd Robinson and councilman Wayne Priestley, with a new council member Von Atkinson. Robinson led with 87 votes, beating Brenton Atkinson 79 and former mayor Dennis Lowe 60. Von Atkinson won 116 votes to top council candidates, taking Brenton Atkinson’s seat.
