Group Forming Next Week To Promote War Memorial

A Preston cemetery district committee plans a war memorial drive with a public meeting next Wednesday at 8 pm in the county courthouse. Secretary James B. West Side Election This Week for School Board

Two seats on the West Side school board will be filled by election Friday. Evan O Koller of the Weston Zone and Joseph Olsen of the Linrose Zone are unopposed. Polls open 3 to 8 pm at the Weston school house and Westwood center. Voters must reside in their zone for 30 days and own property or have children under 21. Both candidates are farmers in the West Side district.

Sprinkling Hours Issued for Preston Residents

Preston adopts seasonal yard watering rules with Sprinkling times set by house number. Even addresses may water from 7 AM to 11 AM and 4:30 PM to 9 PM on even days, odd addresses on odd days. The schedule starts immediately as announced by City Clerk Rhys Swain.

The Idaho State Department of Health will hold a public hearing in Boise on June 12 to take evidence for the final adoption of Water Quality Standards for interstate streams in Idaho. The hearing follows a previous session in Preston and others across the state.

Briggs Sent To Idaho Hospital For Evaluation

Arlo Gene Briggs alias Arlo Tims was ordered transferred to the Idaho State Hospital South for evaluation tests by Judge Francis Rasmussen amid his murder case in Franklin County. Briggs pled not guilty to killing his father last February in Weston and received court-appointed counsel, Robert Bennett of Pocatello, after Briggs failed to secure own attorney.

Ace Raymond Construction Low Bid For Preston Power Facility

The Logan based Ace Raymond Construction Company was the apparent low bidder for a 12000 square foot Utah Power and Light service center in Preston with a bid of 169400 dollars. Other bidders included Perce Youngee Salt Lake City C Jewell Montellier Dorland Salt Lake City Glenn Call Lynn Fackrell Preston. Construction sights in early June 1967 with completion planned late year. The building will house lines service elements and storekeeper and will cost over 200000 dollars including seven acres bought years ago. The new facility will improve customer electric service across the Preston Division by centralizing personnel and aiding communications.

Summer programs begin for school system

School summer programs start June 12 with activities in education and recreation. The plan includes kindergarten Headstart and summer music while the first day will lack bus service due to transportation adjustments.

Preston City Announces Summer Recreation Program

The Preston American Legion team will coach the city recreation program with Ivan Davis directing. The program runs from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the Nielsen gym and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The pool opens to the public Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5 p.m. Ten to fourteen players, including local names, are listed for the Legion squad.

Sen Frank Church will headline two Preston gatherings today. Education Week Nears Assemblies And Panel

BYU Education Week in Preston begins next Wednesday with a faculty of 13 professors and three special assemblies plus three panels featuring local participants. The events run three days at Preston High School and the Franklin house with $1 admission notes.

Beets Grounded in Utah Sugar Beets Planting Plans

About 1500 acres of sugar beets remain to be planted in the Utah Division of Amalgamated Sugar, totaling around 7500 acres. District manager Dale Strong says beets should all be in by month end with good moisture and temperatures. Acreage in the Utah Division is down roughly 500 acres, including a 300 acre drop in the Franklin county area. Franklin county plans about 2800 acres this year, with 1800 already planted, and thinning should begin in about 10 days in the Arimo area followed by Pea River? beets arriving in a week.
