Preston City Council approves annexation to fix water hookups

After a month of discussion the council annexed three West Oneida Street property owners to legalize water hookups and disconnect a fourth. Four unauthorized hookups traced to an original Cache Valley Auction line will be billed. Ward’s property excluded. Ward’s hookup to be disconnected. Incumbents won re election on the West Side School District Board. zoning debate prompts reconsideration. City to pursue local improvement districts and plan coordination with the county.

McClure to Visit Southeastern Idaho Next Week

Senator McClure plans a visit to Montpelier Preston Malad and Soda Springs from Tuesday to Thursday. Activities include a KPST talk show appearance, visits to the Cache Valley Livestock Auction and Rotary Club lunch, Lions Club talk in Preston, and a public meeting at the Larson Building. Calls to Valerie Watkins in Pocatello arrange meetings.

Graduation set for 170 Franklin County seniors

Graduation exercises honor 170 Franklin County seniors with West Side High School and Preston High School ceremonies. West Side to graduate 1 at 8 o clock at the Dayton LDS Ward chapel and Preston hosting 133 graduates in the gym Friday night. Honor graduates and speakers named, diplomas presented by Robert Lindhardt and Ward Neilsen. The annual county senior photos supplement appears in The Citizen.

Cub River Farmer Killed in Tractor Accident

Ernest Spatig, 79, of Cub River, died last Friday in a hillside tractor-accident on his farm. He was moving a loaded implement when the unit tipped and rolled, trapping him beneath. The Franklin County Sheriff’s office recorded the incident around 3:10 pm and reported the body was found after family notified authorities at about 3:38 pm.

Eastside Trustees Approve Kindergarten Calendar and Budget

East Side School District board approves next year’s calendar with a $90 kindergarten fee. Students may attend full day every other day or half day with no noon BLS service. Two certified teachers to be hired and an aide to review the calendar. Aug 25 start, Dec 24 holidays, Apr 16–19 spring break, May 20 last day. Bond bids open June 18 at 8 pm. $200000 bonds notice in The Citizen. Preliminary budget set at $1,280,718 with hearing June 10 at 7:30 pm.

Memorial Day Observance Closes Franklin County Offices

Monday many businesses close for Memorial Day in Franklin County. Thousands visit area cemeteries to honor deceased loved ones. Preston garbage pickup and the Cats Council meeting are canceled except for essential public services. Government and most private employers observe the holiday.

Preston Seeks Federal Aid For City Water Line Project

Randy Furnace, administrative assistant to Senator Frank Church, visited Preston to review the city water line and its problems. City officials, the mayor, and council members discussed financing, line condition, and possible federal aid as Furnace prepared a report for consideration.

Lindhardt Nichols Win Incumbents Reelected to East Side Board

Incumbents won re election to the East Side School District board of trustees Tuesday. Board chairman Robert Lindhardt defeated Reed McEntire in Zone two where 163 votes were cast, Lindhardt 96 to 63. Dr Murray Nichols beat Doug Eggett and Frank Carley in Zone three with 86 to 54 and 3 votes respectively. Spoiled ballots were noted in both zones. Both incumbents have served about ten years and Nichols sought reelection after petitions on his behalf.

The Music Man Tryouts Set For Preston High

The Music Man will be staged by the Northern Cache Valley Theatre Guild next August with tryouts for speaking and singing roles at Preston High School auditorium June 5 6 and 7 at 630 pm An accompanist will be available and Joan Johnson Smith from San Francisco will direct the production.

Bear River Basin water plan info supplement planned

The Citizen announces a 12 page supplement distributed to Bear River Basin households as part of state wide water resource planning. A meeting at Robinson Fairgrounds Building on Friday May 30 from 7 30 to 10 pm will discuss the water situation with Department of Water Resources staff. Similar workshops occurred in 20 Snake River Basin cities and the Panhandle Basin earlier this year. Public hearings are set for April 1976 with the draft plan to be finished January 1977 and presented to residents in January 1977. The Citizen calls for public response to the Bear River Basin water resource plan.
