A broadside collision south of Preston on Main Street involved a 1950 model Shaffer auto driven by Mazel Shaffer 24 of Preston and a 1950 model Woytko car driven by Billy Woytko 15 son of Mr and Mrs John Woytko of Preston. Shaffer suffered serious injuries. passenger Ross Wells and Gale Smith were in the Shaffer car and the Woytko vehicle sustained about 200 dollars damage with Woytko cited for speeding and license violation.

Sugar policy conferees back four year extension bill
Policy committee of the sugar industry reports a final agreement on a four year extension of the sugar bill. Thomas Heath of Franklin County Sugar Co. confirms via telegram from Robert H Shields of the U S Beet Sugar Association in Washington D C. The conference report, approved by joint committees of the House and Senate, targets domestic growth of over 8 25 million tons with 55 percent to domestic areas and 45 percent to foreign. The first 165 000 tons for domestic areas split 51 5 percent to sugar beets and 48 5 percent to cane. Additional portions to Peru Mexico Dominican Republic and others follow. The House Senate conference report is expected to be accepted next week or within 10 days Heath says. The present total acreage of 850 000 includes Idaho with 80 054 or 3 percent.
